So years ago I remember hearing about this guy getting in trouble with 924 Gilman Street and the punk scene in general because he hurt himself stagediving and he or his parents sued the venue.

I remembered seeing this flier around Berkeley and wondering what the story was with this guy. Stealing records? What sort of a guy does that to a punk DIY record store? Years later Joey Vela from Second Coming/Rabid Lassie/Breakaway sent me the infamous flier. Then just recently another old hardcore veteran tipped me off to this video, he can stay anonymous or I can give him credit.(Let me know P!)

Nor Cal hardcore history: (Gorilla Biscuits at 924 Gilman Street) At 29.56 during Hold Your Ground , Jim Pitts stage dives and breaks his hip.  Stage Diving at Gilman was then banned.

I’ve never met the guy but his infamous behavior is the stuff of local legend. What are your thoughts on stealing from punx or suing punk venues? Why is the footage so grainy? (Didn’t anyone have a flip cam then?) Could a band nowadays get away with a chorus like “don’t be retarded”?
