I’m heading down tomorrow with a group of friends and neighbors from CT. We’re bringing food, clothing and man/woman power to help clean up the church. We have no ties to the folks in Breezy Point shy of concern for fellow humanity.

It’s not St. Genevieve’s Church. I believe the Mary statue belonged to a residence that burned down on the oceanside. St. Genevieve’s is on the bayside. It didn’t burn down. It most likely sustained damage from flooding but I don’t know how much. I too am looking for a way to help. I will let you know when I get in touch with the parish.

That photo of the Blessed Virgin is in front of the remains of a home. That was placed there many years ago when an aunt of the current owener was living there. The address is 2 Gotham Walk. I have spent many a labor day on the former deck watching and enjoying the Mardi Gras parade.

Minister Pinckney, I agree that God is calling us to pray and fast for America, however, there is more than that in the message. He is telling us that His Mother Mary is praying for us in our hour of need. Jesus gave her to us as our mother at the foot of the Cross and she continues to pray for us now and at the hour of our deaths.

Dear Jose:
I was rereading a book about the Virgin Mary titled Gifts of Grace by Lone Jensen while watching the terribly sad news about Hurricane Sandy and the fires at Breezy Point. On its cover is a painting of our Lady of Grace. Suddenly the same icon on my book was shown on the TV screen of the Virgin Mary standing in the ruins. I believe this sign to be a message by the grace of God that God’s people ought to pray and fast more for themselves, America ,and the world.

Thank you for commenting, I don't want to mislead folks and have also received commentary from a kind person on Instagram that this was a house. I will update as soon as I get confirmation. I have called the Parish but there is no answer, and I left message with the diocese as well. The people who lived here, can you give us more info? This image has captivated both Catholic and non-Catholic alike and I'm sure that there are many who would love to help.
